The story

A missed light opens the door to everything.

At a stoplight on Jefferson Street, she sings with her windows down in the summer heat, and he misses the green light while the car behind him honks. Weeks later, he finds her at the farmers market on the square with sunflowers in her hands, and when she says nice to meet you, the rest of his life quietly begins beside that first glance.

Lyrics

Verse 1

It started at a stoplight on the edge of Jefferson Street She was singin' to herself with her windows down in the summer heat I don't know what song it was but it made me miss the green The car behind me honked and I just laughed at what I'd seen

Pre-Chorus

I didn't get her name, didn't get her number But somethin' in that moment pulled me under

Chorus

There was this girl, and she changed somethin' in me Just a moment, just a glimpse, but it cut so deep There was this girl with the world inside her smile And I've been chasin' that feelin' for a while There was this girl

Verse 2

I saw her two weeks later at the farmers market on the square She was holdin' sunflowers, sun was dancin' in her hair I walked up with nothin' but my nerve and my name She said nice to meet you, and my life was never quite the same

Chorus

There was this girl, and she changed somethin' in me Just a moment, just a glimpse, but it cut so deep There was this girl with the world inside her smile And I've been chasin' that feelin' for a while There was this girl

Verse 3

Fast forward to tonight, she's sleepin' sound beside me here And I still get butterflies like that first day of the year I'll tell this story to my kids, my grandkids, anyone who'll hear How a boy who missed a green light found the love of every year

Bridge

People ask me how we met, I always start the same With a grin and a look at her that says There was this girl, standin' at a traffic light And everything I'd been lookin' for was right there in plain sight There was this girl
