The story

A boy learns his footing and swears to pass it on.

He is shaped by a wooden spoon, a supper prayer, and promises that hold. With dirt under his nails, a firm handshake, and yes sir, no ma’am manners, he moves through a changing world, still tipping his hat and opening doors. He knows he is not perfect, but the foundation stands, and he means to build his own family on it.

Lyrics

Verse 1

My mama taught me manners with a wooden spoon in hand My daddy taught me how to be a stand-up kind of man We said grace before the supper and we prayed before we slept And every promise that we made was one we always kept

Pre-Chorus

Now I see the world changin' and I'm holdin' to the line That the way they raised me up is standin' the test of time

Chorus

Raised up right, with dirt under my nails Church on Sunday, hard work never fails Yes sir, no ma'am, firm handshake, look 'em in the eye I was raised up right

Verse 2

I held the door for a woman and she looked at me confused Like nobody'd done that for her since she could tie her shoes I just smiled and tipped my hat, said mama'd have my hide If I didn't treat a lady with a little bit of pride

Chorus

Raised up right, with dirt under my nails Church on Sunday, hard work never fails Yes sir, no ma'am, firm handshake, look 'em in the eye I was raised up right

Verse 3

And when I have a family, when I'm daddy to a few I'll teach 'em what my parents taught, the old mixed with the new That kindness ain't a weakness and respect don't cost a thing And the measure of a person is the love they choose to bring

Bridge

I ain't sayin' I'm perfect, Lord I've had my share of wrong But the foundation that they built me on Is the reason I'm still strong Raised up right, and I'll raise mine the same Carryin' on the good stuff in my family's name

The sound

Proud country anthem, 112 BPM, strong acoustic guitar strumming, electric guitar with a bright clean tone, solid kick-snare pattern, bass locking in with the kick drum, fiddle melody adding tradition, banjo accents, male vocal with conviction and warmth, big chorus energy with potential for crowd singalong, polished but authentic production
