The story
A Friday night run turns into a love-struck escape.
He rolls down a two-lane highway with the windows down, Tennessee in a cooler and a girl worth the drive, then pulls to a river bend where she spreads a blanket and tells him to take his time. Under stars, firelight, crickets, and fireflies, he chooses dirt roads, porch lights, and red clay over the city, and the night keeps him there.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Rolling down a two-lane highway Windows down and Friday free Sweet magnolia on the breeze tonight And a cooler full of Tennessee The sun is painting everything in amber Fields of gold stretch out for miles I got nowhere to be but everywhere And a girl who's worth the drive
Pre-Chorus
Turn it up, let the fiddles sing Feel the south in everything
Chorus
Dixieland delight Underneath the stars and the firelight Barefoot dancing in the Alabama night This is living, this is right Dixieland delight Every dirt road, every porch light Every jar of shine and Saturday night This is heaven, hold on tight Dixieland delight
Verse 2
Pulled up to the river bend Where the water meets the pines She spread a blanket on the riverbank Said, \Baby, take your time\ The crickets play their symphony The fireflies put on a show And right here in the middle of nowhere Is the only place I wanna go
Chorus
Dixieland delight Underneath the stars and the firelight Barefoot dancing in the Alabama night This is living, this is right Dixieland delight Every dirt road, every porch light Every jar of shine and Saturday night This is heaven, hold on tight Dixieland delight
Verse 3
We come from front-porch people Raised on hymns and homemade pie Where your handshake means your honor And you never pass without a \hi\ So let the city keep its traffic Let the coast keep all its fame Give me red clay and a river And I'll never leave again
Bridge
From the hollers of Virginia To the bayous down in Lou' There's a feeling in the Southland That you feel down in your soul It's in the way we love each other It's in the way we carry on It's a Dixieland delight And it keeps on keeping strong
The sound
Feel-good uptempo country at 120 BPM. Bright acoustic guitar driving the rhythm, banjo rolls, fiddle melody lines. Upbeat shuffling drums with tambourine. Pedal steel on the verses for color, big open electric guitar chords on the chorus. Southern rock meets modern country celebration anthem. Sing-along energy with a front-porch feel.
