If It Wasn't For Trucks

Morgan Town · 3:50 · 4/3/2026 · 43 plays

The story

These trucks carry every milestone, and the last key still waits.

He starts in a Chevy bed with a first kiss, learns the road in his daddy’s F-150, and moves through life in a Dodge Ram with dreams on the dashboard. A Ford hood becomes the place where he asks her to marry him, and now he watches his boy reaching for the keys, knowing the same cab will teach him freedom and hurt.

Lyrics

Verse 1

I had my first kiss in the bed of a Chevy, summer of '09 Learned to drive on daddy's F-150 down a dirt road property line Moved my whole life twice in a Dodge Ram, dashboard full of dreams And the best conversations I've ever had happened between the seats

Pre-Chorus

Four wheels, two lanes, one life that's rollin' on Every memory I've made has had a tailgate to sit on

Chorus

If it wasn't for trucks, I don't know where I'd be No first dates, no heartbreaks, no drivin' to the sea No muddin' after midnight, no haulin' to be done If it wasn't for trucks, man, I'd be missin' half the fun

Verse 2

I proposed to my girl on the hood underneath the Milky Way She laughed and said only you would pick a parking lot to say The words that changed our lives forever in the shadow of a Ford I said this truck's been part of every good thing I've been for

Chorus

If it wasn't for trucks, I don't know where I'd be No first dates, no heartbreaks, no drivin' to the sea No muddin' after midnight, no haulin' to be done If it wasn't for trucks, man, I'd be missin' half the fun

Verse 3

Now my boy's gettin' close to that age where he's gonna want the keys And I'll hand 'em over nervous, say be careful, boy, now please But I know that truck'll give him what it gave to me and mine A freedom and a feelin' you can't get no other time

Bridge

It ain't about the make or model or the year It's about the life you live between the gears The miles, the smiles, the tears wiped on the dash If it wasn't for trucks, we wouldn't have half of that Thank God for trucks

The sound

Upbeat country anthem, 116 BPM, big acoustic guitar strum, electric guitar with a bright crunchy tone, driving drums with energy, punchy bass, banjo adding excitement on the chorus, fiddle solos, male vocal with enthusiasm and nostalgia, production designed for truck-window-down driving, big singalong energy on the final chorus
