The story

Faith lands where answers stop.

He grows up under a white church on the hill, taught to pray for what he needs, yet only finds a troubled mind and dinner-table habits of belief. Around him, a buddy counts down overseas, a sister fights recovery, and grandpa jokes from a hospital bed; faith becomes not the words but staying put, saying amen for the bruised, the lost, and the ones still trying.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Mama raised me in a white church on the hill Said pray for what you need and God will fill But I've been prayin' for some answers for a long, long time And the only revelation is this troubled mind I still bow my head when dinner's on the table Still believe in somethin' even when I ain't able

Pre-Chorus

I'm not lookin' for a miracle, just a sign That there's a reason underneath this grind

Chorus

Amen, amen, to the broken and the bruised Amen to the ones who feel like they've been used Amen to the wanderers who lost their way back home Amen to the sinners prayin' on their own Amen, amen, to the grace we don't deserve To the love that finds us even when it hurts Here's to holdin' on when holdin' on don't make no sense Amen, amen, amen

Verse 2

I got a buddy overseas who's countin' down his days Got a sister in recovery findin' better ways My grandpa's on a hospital bed, still crackin' jokes Sayin' heaven ain't in no rush for this old folk And I think that's what faith is, not the words you say But the way you keep on livin' anyway

Verse 3

So light your candle, raise your hands or don't Pray out loud or whisper, swear or won't I think God hears the ones who show up real With dirt beneath their nails and hearts that feel

Bridge

I don't have the answers, I don't know the plan But I'll stand beside you, help you if I can And when the world gets heavy and we're bendin' at the knee I'll say amen for you if you say amen for me

The sound

Soulful country-gospel, 88 BPM, warm acoustic guitar, Hammond organ swells, gospel choir harmonies on the chorus, gentle hand claps, upright bass, brushed drums. Reverent but not preachy, intimate verses that bloom into communal, uplifting choruses. Think Sunday morning on a front porch.
