House Again

Morgan Town · 4:30 · 4/30/2026 · 18 plays

The story

Love leaves the rooms standing, not the home

The porch light stays on over four walls, a dial tone, a coffee mug in the sink, and a couch still holding one person’s shape. He repaints, moves chairs, buys new curtains, but the floorboards remember bare feet and the kitchen window frames an empty street. Home was never the address; tonight he sleeps on the kitchen floor, waiting for a door that does not open.

Lyrics

Verse 1

The porch light's on but nobody's home Just four walls and a dial tone Your coffee mug still in the sink I swear this whole place smells like you, I think The couch still holds the shape of where you'd lay But you've been gone since last Thursday

Pre-Chorus

Used to be our little world, our shelter from the rain Now it's just a building and a whole lot of pain

Chorus

It's just a house again, not a home no more Just a roof and some rooms and a creaky floor There ain't no laughter echoin' off these walls Just the ghost of love still wanderin' down the hall It's just a house again since you walked away Four walls can't hold what your heart wouldn't stay I keep the lights on hopin' you'll walk through But it's just a house again without you

Verse 2

I repainted the bedroom, rearranged the chairs Tried to fill the emptiness with different air But the floorboards still remember your bare feet And the kitchen window frames an empty street I bought new curtains, threw the old sheets out But I can't renovate what this heart's about

Verse 3

Maybe someday these rooms will feel like mine Maybe someday the silence won't remind Me of your voice sayin' goodnight at the door But tonight I'm sleepin' on the kitchen floor

Bridge

Home was never the address or the key Home was you right here next to me And now I'm standin' in the wreckage of our plans Holdin' walls up with these empty hands

The sound

Slow-burn country ballad, 72 BPM, gentle fingerpicked acoustic guitar, soft pedal steel weeping in the background, subtle bass, brushed snare, intimate and raw vocal mix. Light piano accents on the chorus. Sparse arrangement that lets the emotion breathe, with a slight swell on the bridge.
