The story
A tired man gets one quiet reward at day’s end.
He comes off a twelve-hour shift with concrete on his boots, a back halfway gone, and a baby on the way, still carrying a mortgage in his head. He coaches little league after overtime, holds his mama’s hand through the night, and asks for nothing but a cold beer and a lawn chair in the shade, where somebody finally sees the years.
Lyrics
Verse 1
He just worked a twelve-hour shift in the July sun His boots are caked in concrete and his back is halfway done He's got a baby on the way and a mortgage on the brain But he don't complain, no he don't explain, he just does it all again
Pre-Chorus
So before he sits down, before he shuts his eyes Somebody do the right thing
Chorus
Get that man a beer, he's been earnin' it all day Get that man a beer and let him sit and fade away He don't need a trophy, don't need a parade Just a cold one and a lawn chair in the shade Get that man a beer
Verse 2
He coached the little league team after workin' overtime He held his mama's hand all night when she was on the decline He don't ask for much, don't make a fuss, don't need the spotlight's glare But every now and then the world should show him that it cares
Chorus
Get that man a beer, he's been earnin' it all day Get that man a beer and let him sit and fade away He don't need a trophy, don't need a parade Just a cold one and a lawn chair in the shade Get that man a beer
Verse 3
So here's to every hard-workin', under-thanked, overlooked soul Who's holdin' it together when the world's outta control You might not make the headlines, might not trend or go viral But you're the backbone of this country and you deserve a survival
Bridge
Make it ice cold, make it tall Set it right there on the wall Tell him thank you, tell him cheers Tell him somebody sees the years Of blood and sweat and love and tears Get that man a beer, get that man a beer
