The story
She stops carrying everyone and starts choosing herself.
She wakes up done with the small stuff, done living by everybody else’s rules, done apologizing for her hair and her happiness. When her ex calls to complain, she refuses the guilt, steps out of the cheap seats, and leaves the rest of them judging while she breathes easy for the first time.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Used to stress about the small stuff, every comment, every look Livin' life like everybody else was writin' in my book Tried to please 'em all at once and lost myself somewhere between Who I was and who they wanted and the space I'd never been
Pre-Chorus
Then one mornin' I woke up and somethin' finally clicked I can't pour from an empty cup and I'm tired of feelin' sick
Chorus
Ain't my damn to give, no I'm fresh out of cares Done apologizin' for the way I part my hair Ain't my damn to give if they don't like the way I live I only got one life and it ain't my damn to give
Verse 2
My ex called up complainin' 'bout the way I moved along Said it's wrong to look so happy when we haven't been gone long I said darlin' you can't have it both ways, you can't leave and stay And my happiness ain't somethin' I'll apologize for today
Chorus
Ain't my damn to give, no I'm fresh out of cares Done apologizin' for the way I part my hair Ain't my damn to give if they don't like the way I live I only got one life and it ain't my damn to give
Verse 3
So call me selfish, call me cold, call me whatever helps you sleep I'll be out here livin' loud while you're still judgin' from the cheap seats The people who matter know my heart, the rest can take a seat Life's too short to waste a single breath on someone else's defeat
Bridge
I used to carry everybody's weight upon my chest Now I set it down and finally take a breath Ain't my problem, ain't my fight Ain't my damn to give tonight And it feels so good to live like this Ain't my damn to give
The sound
Confident country rock, 118 BPM, punchy electric guitar riff with attitude, driving acoustic guitar rhythm, heavy kick drum groove, snappy snare, bass with swagger, fiddle adding sass on the chorus, male vocal with a confident I-don't-care delivery, production with energy and edge, builds to a defiant final chorus
