The story

A bar stool becomes the only place they tell the truth.

On Thursday nights at the wrong bar, they trade group chats and weekend plans for a stool, a cold one, and a bartender who stays late. Jimmy counts divorce, Dave keeps his beer after losing his job, and the singer sits somewhere in between, too old to party, too young to come clean. They talk the world over between rounds, then leave with the same old face and the same empty answer.

Lyrics

Verse 1

We ain't the kind of friends who brunch on Sunday We're more like Thursday night at the wrong bar on the wrong day We don't do group chats or weekend plans We just show up when we need a second chance To forget about the week and all its weight Grab a stool and hope the bartender stays late

Pre-Chorus

We ain't much but we're honest when we're buzzed That's gotta count for somethin', I think it does

Chorus

We're drinkin' buddies, that's what we are Holdin' court at the end of the bar We solve the world between the second and third round Drinkin' buddies, keepin' each other found We ain't therapists but we'll listen all night Drinkin' buddies till the mornin' light

Verse 2

There's Jimmy with his third divorce this year And Dave who lost his job but not his beer And me, I'm somewhere in between Too old to party, too young to come clean But every Friday we're right back in place Same old stories with the same old face

Chorus

We're drinkin' buddies, that's what we are Holdin' court at the end of the bar We solve the world between the second and third round Drinkin' buddies, keepin' each other found We ain't therapists but we'll listen all night Drinkin' buddies till the mornin' light

Verse 3

And when they put us in the ground someday I hope they crack a cold one on our graves And say, \Those boys sure knew how to be there\ In the only way that drinkin' buddies care

Bridge

Here's to the ones who show up broken Here's to the words we leave unspoken Here's to the bar that knows our name We're all a little lost, but we're glad we came Glad we came

The sound

Classic country bar song, 100 BPM, honky-tonk piano driving the rhythm, acoustic guitar strumming, pedal steel guitar fills, solid country drum groove, walking bass line, light fiddle accents, warm and lived-in barroom production with just enough polish to feel modern
