The story
He never hesitates when she opens the door.
She asks for a drink, a drive past the blacktop, a Sunday meeting with her mama, and he answers like he has been waiting all his life. When she talks forever, then a little piece of land, babies, a garden, and a dog, he drops to one knee and follows her lead, already saying yes before she finishes asking.
Lyrics
Verse 1
She said wanna grab a drink sometime, just you and me I said darlin' I was hopin' you would ask eventually She said wanna take a drive out where the blacktop ends I said I got the gas if you got nowhere else to be
Pre-Chorus
Every time she asks me anything at all I trip over my own two feet just to answer that call
Chorus
Don't mind if I do, don't mind at all If you're invitin' me in, I'm already down the hall Don't mind if I do, baby say the word I'll follow you anywhere on this God-green earth Don't mind if I do
Verse 2
She said wanna meet my mama on a Sunday afternoon I said I'll bring the flowers and I'll iron my best suit She said wanna talk about forever, are you scared I said the only thing that scares me is if you weren't there
Chorus
Don't mind if I do, don't mind at all If you're invitin' me in, I'm already down the hall Don't mind if I do, baby say the word I'll follow you anywhere on this God-green earth Don't mind if I do
Verse 3
She said wanna grow old together on a little piece of land With some babies and a garden and a dog and a plan I said I've been waitin' for somebody to ask me that So I dropped down on one knee and I never looked back
Bridge
Some people play it cool, some people play it safe But when the right one asks you You don't hesitate So go on and ask me anything The answer's always gonna be the same Don't mind if I do, darlin' Don't mind if I do
