The story

Heat makes even simple relief feel like salvation.

He sweats through a hundred-degree day in a busted-up pickup, chasing anything cold: a beer, a creek, a frozen aisle, an ice cup from a cashier with a grin. Then he reaches her porch, where sweet tea, a lemon twist, and an evening breeze turn the whole day soft, until he understands relief can arrive wearing her smile.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Hundred-degree day and I'm melting Dashboard says it's getting worse AC's busted in the pickup Sweat is soaking through my shirt Been working since the crack of dawn Hands are cut and muscles sore All I want in this entire world Is something cold, nothing more

Pre-Chorus

I ain't picky, I ain't proud Just need something to cool me down

Chorus

Anything cold A beer, a creek, a swimming hole Her lips on mine on a summer night Anything cold to make it right Anything cold Ice in a glass, wind on the road A popsicle from the corner store Just give me something cold, I'm begging for Anything cold

Verse 2

Pulled up to the gas station Grabbed the first thing in the case Stood there in the frozen aisle Letting the cold hit my face The cashier laughed and said, \Rough day?\ I said, \Ma'am, you don't even know\ She handed me an extra ice cup Said, \This one's on the house, here you go\

Chorus

Anything cold A beer, a creek, a swimming hole Her lips on mine on a summer night Anything cold to make it right Anything cold Ice in a glass, wind on the road A popsicle from the corner store Just give me something cold, I'm begging for Anything cold

Verse 3

Finally made it to her place She met me with a mason jar Sweet tea with a lemon twist And a smile that healed every scar We sat out on the back porch Feet up in the evening breeze And I realized anything cold Is better when it comes with ease

Bridge

Life gets hot and heavy World will burn you down But there's always something waiting To cool you off and turn it around A good drink, a good girl A good night under the stars Anything cold on a hot day Is proof that God ain't far

The sound

Easygoing, summer country groove at 108 BPM. Lazy, swampy guitar feel with a southern rock edge. Relaxed drums with a half-time vibe. Bass guitar providing a smooth groove. Slide guitar adding heat and character. Fun, relatable energy. Production that feels like the relief of shade on a hot day. Banjo picking on the bridge.
