The story
Everything looks good until the ground gives way.
He stands where the rain has turned the yard to muck, trying to hold promises together with boots that sink deeper each step. Mud clings to the tires, the porch, the hems of old plans, and every bright word starts to leak as soon as he says it. By the end, the only thing that stays put is the mess under his feet.
