The story
He leaves before the dust settles.
He pulls out of Lubbock with a half-packed bed, a worn T-shirt on the seat, and the kind of silence that fills a cab faster than words. The town stays behind him in the rearview, flat and hot and unforgiving, while she’s left with the empty space he makes, and the mile of regret starts the second he’s gone.
